We thank you for choosing North Ranch Animal Hospital for your pet’s medical and surgical needs. Today your pet will be undergoing general anesthesia. All animals undergoing general anesthesia receive a pre-anesthetic examination and are closely monitored with vitals recorded throughout the procedure. Anesthetic complications are extremely rare in healthy animals. Extra precautions are available to make your pets anesthesia and surgery safer and more comfortable
Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is recommended for all pets undergoing general anesthesia but very important for geriatric patients (older than 7 years) or a patient with past health problems. Kidney and hydration parameters, blood sugar, anemia, blood proteins, electrolytes and blood gas parameters (CO2, ph) are checked to help find abnormalities that may complicate anesthesia and many times are not detected during physical examination.
Many of our patients present to us with advanced periodontal disease and may require extraction of teeth. These teeth, if left in place, will lead to worse periodontal problems. Extraction costs are additional and can be anywhere between $15 to $125 per tooth. Other additional fees may be required for periodontal surgery, pain medications, and or antibiotics depending upon the degree of periodontal disease.
